Eugene “Gene” Dedolph, 97, of Tigerton, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the Homme Home of Wittenberg.
Eugene Gordon Dedolph was born on Jan. 18, 1916, in the village of Tigerton to Edward and Ella (Kersten) Dedolph. At a young age his family moved to the Bowler area, where he was raised and attended school. Gene was a motorcycle mechanic, then worked at a couple of cheese factories, and also was employed at Holm’s Service Station in Tigerton, where he met his wife. He was united in marriage on Nov. 29, 1941, to Ione M. Cannon at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton. The couple operated the Arrow Court Tourist Cabins & Trailer Park from 1947-1958. In 1956 Gene started with White Construction Company, Milwaukee, working as a mechanic until his retirement in 1973. His wife preceded him in death on Aug. 8, 2005.
Gene’s memberships included Engineers Local 139 and St. Anthony’s parish. A hobby that he enjoyed for some years was buying, repairing and selling vehicles. Gene always liked the outdoors, going on trips to Canada, and all of his loyal dogs. He especially loved trout fishing and camping.
He was proud to tell people that he lived to be upper 90s because he often ate for breakfast two fried eggs, bacon, toast and real butter, since he was a child.
Survivors include four sons, Dan (Sharla) Dedolph, of Tigerton, Don (Jane) Dedolph, of Jackson, Dion Dedolph, of Tigerton, and Dominic (Gina) Dedolph, of Janesville. There are two grandsons, five granddaughters, five great-granddaughters, one great-great-granddaughter, three great-stepgrandchildren and two great-great-stepgrandchildren. Gene is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ione; a grandson, Donovan; and three brothers, Roy, Jack and Lee.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Aug. 19, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Tigerton. The Rev. Patrick Lloyd will officiate, and burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Tigerton. Friends may call on Monday from 9 a.m. until time of Mass at the church.
