Daniel A. “Dan” Richards, 69, of Gresham, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, in Appleton. Born on April 5, 1946, in Shawano, he was the son of the late Alfred and Alma (Lindow) Richards.
Dan was a 1964 graduate of Gresham High School. While in school, he was very active in sports and his love for sports continued throughout his life. Dan owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Herman and worked as a draftsman in Two Rivers for seven years. On Oct. 1, 1983, he was united in marriage to Darlene “Dolly” Watters in Shawano. Together, they owned and operated Dan and Dolly’s Country Bar for 10 years and also sold real estate. He enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, gardening, and grilling out with family and friends. Most of all, Dan loved spending time with his grandchildren, sharing his memories of when he was in sports and never letting them go home without hearing one of his “corny” jokes.
Dan is survived by his wife, Dolly; his children, David (Kelly) Richards, of Shawano, Jon (Lynette) Richards, of Shawano, and Chris Richards, of Honolulu, Hawaii; Dolly’s children, Laurie (Rick) Peotter, of Neenah, Darold (fiancée, Sherry) Raasch, of Gresham, and Christy (Luke) Onesti, of Shawano; 11 grandchildren, Holly, Nick, Brent, Stefan, Kenzie, Bryce, Kaden, Ashton, Sterling, Brett and Kalah; and two sisters, Betty (Ruben) Geise, of Gresham, and Mary (Gerald) Giese, of Appleton. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Kathy; one stepdaughter, Mary Ann; his parents; and one brother, Roger.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church in Gresham with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the spring in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from noon until the time of the service.
