Council approves new city park

A new park has been added to the Oconto Falls City Park System. After approval by the city council April 8, Michael McDermid Family Park covers 1.022 acres along the southern area of a retention pond between Van Buren and Cherry streets. Street Superintendent Wally Remic provided the council with a rough sketch of the possibilities, including a small parking lot at Locust Avenue and Van Buren Street, and a 5-foot-wide gravel walking path around the pond. Remic also suggested adding a water fountain to the pond, installing some benches and repurposing a playground set from Memorial Field. “There’s a lot of options we can do there,” Remic said. “It’s a neat little parcel.” Council members unanimously approved an ordinance designating the new park. wbluhm@newmedia-wi.com
