Jill Trochta has been named director of the Suring Area Public Library, following a 14-year tenure as Suring’s children’s librarian.
“I’ve been here for a long time, and I love it,” she said.
“We were very happy that Jill has accepted this position,” said Theresa Zahn, president of the library’s board of directors. “Jill has been with the library for a lot of years and brings a lot of experience.”
Trochta steps into the role vacated by Amanda Burns, director since August 2012, who accepted a job as director of the Algoma Public Library.
The search for a youth services librarian to replace Trochta is ongoing; the deadline for applications is Jan. 29. The youth services librarian will be responsible for creating programming for children from birth to high school age and assist with daily library duties like shelving books and helping library patrons.
Trochta said the library has expanded its social media presence with its website and Facebook page in recent years and has added programming, such as make-and-take crafts, movie nights and other activities. As director, she plans to create new programming and expand the library’s collection.
Trochta grew up on a farm in Gillett and now lives outside of Suring. She has been married for 26 years and has two adult children.
Through course work offered through the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she is certified as a library director.
