The deadline to nominate an outstanding community volunteer for the annual Shawano Area Community Foundation’s (SACF) Celebration of Giving has been extended through Feb. 13.
Presented by the SACF and co-sponsored by Wolf River Media/The Shawano Leader and Results Broadcasting, volunteer winners will be honored at the sixth annual Celebration of Giving banquet April 14 at the Gathering in Shawano.
Volunteers can be nominated in one of five categories recognizing the efforts of people who volunteer in the areas of health care, education, youth leadership and community service efforts in Shawano and Wittenberg.
Volunteer winners each will receive $1,000, which they can direct to a community organization of their choice.
Participating sponsors who provide the monetary awards for the individual volunteer of the year award winners include the following: Health Care Volunteer Award, ThedaCare Physicians; Youth Volunteer Award, Shawano Optimist Club & Shawano Rotary; Bill Mielke Volunteer Educator Award, Mielke Family Foundation; Wittenberg Community Service Award. Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats; Shawano Community Service Award, a fund holder within the Shawano Area Community Foundation.
Wendy Crawford, Celebration of Giving chairwoman, explained the nominations deadline for volunteers of the year has been extended to accommodate organizations and individuals who are still preparing their nominations for consideration.
“We have enjoyed a steady stream of nominations and have gathered a very nice cross section of the community in this year’s submissions,” Crawford said. “We encourage individuals and organizations alike to take advantage of the deadline extension to nominate those in our community who contribute so much to the fabric of life here.”
“The Celebration of Giving is a very special night. It’s the one time in the entire year when we say thank you and congratulations to those individuals who selflessly contribute to make the quality of life in our communities better,” said Todd Raether, chairman of the SACF board of directors. “I always leave the Celebration of Giving banquet with such a good feeling. We spend the evening recognizing all that is good about our communities. We are truly fortunate so many people step forward to contribute their time and talents to help others and make a difference in the quality of life.”
Individuals and organizations who wish to submit a nomination for consideration in one of the five Celebration of Giving volunteer categories can do so by visiting the SACF website at www.shawanofoundation.org or by contacting Crawford at wendyc1@charter.net or use the nomination form that regularly appears in The Shawano Leader.
