Cecil woman killed in Oconto County crash

A Cecil woman died Jan. 28 after the car she was driving collided with a semitrailer truck in the Town of Oconto Falls. Oconto County Sheriff Todd Skarban said the emergency dispatch center was notified at 8:18 a.m. about a two-vehicle crash on state Highway 32 near the intersection with County Road CC. Responding deputies found an overturned semi in the west ditch and a passenger car in the northbound lane, both with extensive damage. A preliminary investigation revealed a 76-year-old woman was traveling west on County Road CC when the car failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by the southbound truck operated by a 39-year-old man from Krakow, Skarban said. The woman, who was the lone occupant of the passenger car, was taken by ambulance to a Green Bay hospital and later died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The truck driver also was transported to a hospital in Green Bay and treated for his injuries. The sheriff said an ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Oconto County Sheriff’s Office and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office. No other information is being released at this time. The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Gillett Police Department, Town of Gillett Fire Department, Oconto Falls Fire Department, Gillett Area Ambulance Service, Oconto Falls Ambulance Service, Eagle III, Oconto County Emergency Management and the Brown County Medical Examiner’s Office.
