Carol Peterson

Carol Peterson, 82, De Pere, formerly of Oconto Falls, went to be with her Lord on Monday, Jan. 18, 2016. Carol was born on Jan. 5, 1934, to Clarence and Dorothy (Driggs) Berghoefer in Milwaukee. She attended West Division High School, where she was an outstanding softball pitcher and junior prom queen. Carol married Gerald “Punky” Peterson on Oct. 19, 1951. The couple settled in Oconto Falls, where they raised their five children. Carol was employed for over 20 years by Sharpe Care, working as a dietary aide. Carol was a faithful and familiar face at her children’s concerts, sporting events and parents’ nights. A highlight for her was supporting the 1973 Oconto Falls baseball team to the state championship. Carol was well-known by her family as an excellent cook. Her family always looked forward to getting together, and when they did, she enjoyed preparing their delicious, home-cooked favorites. Carol was a member of the Oconto Falls United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School there for a few years. Carol will be remembered and honored as the true matriarch, backbone and support of her family, and will be greatly missed. Carol is survived by her five children, Gerald (Frances) Peterson, California, Lee Peterson (friend Lorie), Crivitz, Rochelle Doherty, De Pere, Sandra (Jim) Seiferth, Georgia, and Dawn (Frank) Folwarski, Michigan; 10 grandchildren, Mandy (Shannon) Meyer, Adam Peterson (their mother Sandy Peterson), Thomas Peterson, Katie Peterson, Kiley Nagel, Laryn Nagel, Alexander Seiferth, Adeline Seiferth, Evan Folwarski and Haden Folwarski; five great-grandchildren, Kaidance, Braydon, Greyson, Layla and Kooper; three brothers, Rodney (Carol) Berghoefer, Raymond (Maureen) Berghoefer and Richard (Victoria) Berghoefer; one sister-in-law, Janice Peterson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Punky in 2008; two infant children; five brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law. Visitation with the urn present was held after 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016, at Jones Funeral Service in Oconto Falls until the time of the memorial service at 4 p.m. Saturday. Carol requested special thanks be made to her dear friend and neighbor, Joan Peterson, for her many years of friendship and support. The Peterson family would also like to thank Southern Hospice for its excellent care.
