It can’t be July. It was just June. I had a birthday in June, and already I’m another month older.
The Fourth of July weekend began with us taking our two granddaughters to the Clintonville fireworks, which were spectacular. The next day we attended the festive Bonduel parade, along with hundreds of other people. On Sunday, we took part in their car show, with our 1976 Cadillac Deville d’Elegance. A very enjoyable weekend, to be sure.
The weekend of July 11 will have the Mielke stage bouncing with Dr. Suess characters as “Suessical the Musical” opens. This wonderful musical continues on July 12, 13, 18, 19, 20. Evening shows are at 7 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Brandon Byng is the director. Brandon brings his experience and talent from the Abrams Spotlight Theatre in Abrams. Brandon is now a member of The Box in the Wood Theatre Guild and is happy to be a part of the Mielke experience.
Tickets are still the same good deal at $10 for adults and $5 for students. The student rate applies to those in college, too, as we know how tight their budgets are. The annual Arts and Craft Fair is on July 27, and director Cheryl Folkerts always has an interesting variety of craft and art vendors for our patrons to enjoy. If you’ve never attended the fair, put it on your list of things to do this month. The event opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. The food wagon, manned by Sally and Dennis from The Main Event in Cecil, will serve grilled burgers and brats, walking tacos, fruit cups and more. We can always use volunteers, so give Cheryl a call if you want to help at 715-745-6222.
The annual Shawano Music Festival takes place from Aug. 8-10 with professional musicians in concert and playing at venues around the Mielke Park. Go to www.shawanoarts.com and click on the link for the festival for many more details.
The Mielke Theatre Children’s Workshop is returning. The dates this year are from Aug. 11-15, from 6-8:30 p.m. The performance by the kids on Aug. 16 will be at 2 p.m. This year’s show will be “Beauty and the Beast.” Joe Engels and Megan Lisowe will be directing the workshop again.
Joe and Megan are from the Attic Theatre in Appleton and have been holding workshops there for the past four years and are looking forward to again teaching our kids at the Mielke.
