Bonduel High School inducted three former athletes into its hall of fame Friday before the football team’s game against Iola-Scandinavia.
The honorees were Richard Gruenewald, Class of 1946, Andrea (Weier) Burch, Class of 1996, and Jessica (Berger) Skinkis, Class of 2005.
Gruenewald was a three-sport star, participating in football, basketball and track. A captain in football and basketball, he was named the basketball team’s most valuable player his senior year, averaging more than 15 points a game.
In football, Gruenewald led the area in receptions his senior year, catching 37 passes in seven games. He was first-team All-Wolf River Valley Conference and honorable mention all-state.
Though Gruenewald held school records in track, those times have been lost.
Burch played volleyball, basketball and softball, and earned 10 varsity letters.
In basketball, Burch was first-team All-Central Wisconsin Conference-Large her sophomore, junior and senior seasons. She ranks fifth in BHS all-time scoring (874 points) and seventh in rebounds (396).
She was named first-team All-CWC-Large in softball as a senior and was an honorable mention as a junior.
In volleyball, she earned an all-CWC-Large honorable mention as a senior.
Skinkis participated in basketball, softball and cross-country, earning 11 varsity letters.
A two-time state qualifier in cross-country, Skinkis finished eighth as a freshman and 30th as a sophomore. She was captain of the girls cross-country team twice and named MVP three times. She was conference champion her freshman and sophomore years, and earned honorable mention all-conference recognition as a senior.
In basketball, Skinkis was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection and Central Wisconsin Conference basketball player of the year as a senior. She ranks seventh in school history in scoring (824) and first in assists (398). She is also second in career 3-point baskets (83), fourth in free-throw percentage (70.9) and fourth in steals (196).
Skinkis was also conference player of the year her senior season in softball. She earned first-team selections her sophomore, junior and senior seasons, and was the team’s MVP all three of those seasons.
In addition to being academic all-conference all four years, Skinkis was named the senior female athlete of the year.
The Bonduel High School Hall of Fame has 27 members, including the class of 2014. The hall was started in 2006.
