Two Oconto Falls American Legion baseball players participated in the Fox River Valley All-Star game Saturday at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton.
While one left Appleton with memories to cherish, another left with his second consecutive Fox River Valley-North Division pitcher of the year honor.
Bo Shroyer received the starting nod at first base for the American Conference squad. He singled to right center field in his only at-bat. He also played right field and third base.
“It was always my dream to be in a big game and having the chance to play at the Timber Rattlers’ stadium,” Shroyer said.
Shroyer said he also enjoyed the camaraderie with players from other teams.
“It was one of the best athletic experiences I ever had in my life,” said Shroyer, who also played on the Oconto Falls High School baseball team.
Shroyer batted .345 with 14 RBIs and a .448 slugging percentage during the regular season.
Pitcher Hunter Magnin tossed a scoreless fourth inning, allowing one hit but striking out one, before he was shifted to shortstop and then third base for the American Conference.
The American Conference held a 4-1 lead after the sixth inning but allowed seven runs in the eighth in a 9-4 loss to the National Conference.
Magnin received the award as the FRV-North’s pitcher of the year at a banquet held after the game.
Magnin (6-3) led the division with 76 strikeouts and compiled a 1.98 ERA. He batted .353 with 6 RBIs and a .382 slugging percentage during the regular season. The recent Oconto Falls High School graduate will attend Lakeland College in Sheboygan.
