Backpacks are a practical and useful way to get textbooks and supplies to and from school, and when used properly, they should ease children’s load, not make it worse.

Greg and Debbie Bernitt have sponsored Shawano County’s 397th barn quilt that is on display on a barn on their 20-acre farm at 542 State Road in Birnamwood.
Even prior to the Bernitts purchasing the farm in 2014, it was known as Mallard Acres, so that is what they named their quilt pattern.
Fifteen agricultural leaders have been selected to participate in the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Leadership Institute, including Amanda Williams from Shawano.
This year-long leadership training program’s mission is to develop strong and effective agricultural leaders.
“Today’s farmers and agriculturists must take the lead to be advocates for their farms and agribusinesses,” said WFBF Senior Director of Member Relations Wendy Kannel.
Shawano residents can continue to expect the occasional knock on their door, as members of the Jehovah’s Witnesses have recently gone back to door-to-door ministry.
Jehovah’s Witnesses suspended door-to-door ministry in March 2020 due to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Suring Area Historical Society held its Sept. 20 meeting at the Suring Area Library meeting room. The meeting was called to order by interim president Shannon Stoner.

The Haskell Foundation has announce Andi Weber will be its new executive director.
Weber is a Haskell Indian Nations University alum with a bachelor’s degree in Indigenous and American Indian studies and graduated with a Master of Public Administration from the University of Kansas.
