Homecoming parade coming later this month

The 31st annual Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce Fall Homecoming Parade will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 24 with lineup on Elizabeth Street beginning at 5 p.m. Parade participants will need to enter the staging area off of Lincoln Street.
County celebrating Library Card Signup Month
September is Library Card Signup Month, and Shawano County Library will join the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning. There is nothing more empowering than signing up for a library card, according to a county library press release.
USDA aid available for timber harvesters, haulers
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is providing up to $200 million to provide relief to timber harvesting and timber hauling businesses that have experienced losses due to COVID-19 as part of USDA’s Pandemic Assistance for Producers initiative. Loggers and truckers can apply for assistance through USDA’s Farm Service Agency through Oct. 15.
Horsens wins auto care scholarship
Emelie Horsens, of Cecil, has been selected for a $5,000 Women in Auto Care Scholarship. Horsens was selected in June from more than 1,000 applicants to receive a University of the Aftermarket Foundation Scholarship and plans to attend Northeastern Wisconsin Technical College to study collision repair. The foundation provides funding for aftermarket educational programs, research, and scholarships.
Children’s sleep routines should adjust for school
Summer vacation means more relaxed schedules for most families, where bedtimes and wake-up times may wander a bit as they enjoy camping, traveling, and all the fun activities. Historical society telling World War I stories
The Shawano County Historical Society, with help from the Shawano Parks and Recreation Department, will present “Headstones: World War I Stories,” at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 11 at Woodlawn Cemetery, 1115 E. Green Bay St., Shawano.
Club Notes: Shawano Area Writers
Shawano Area Writers met July 15 in the Elsie Engel Reading Room at the Shawano County Library. There were nine members present plus one visitor. A new writer, JoAnne Zellner, will be joining our group. Zellner was inspired to write a biography for her children after reading a poorly written self-published book by a farmer.
