William Blythin, of Kiel, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2015, at the age of 89. He was born on Sept. 5, 1926, in Strongsville, Ohio, to the late Judge Edward and Jane (Rankin) Blythin.
Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy (1944-1946) and (1951-1953) having served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater during World War II and in Korea during the Korean Conflict.
After attending Western Reserve University, Bill began his career as a teller in 1948 at Shaker Savings Association, Shaker Heights, Ohio. After Korean service he was employed by Union Commerce Bank in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1966 he and his family moved to Chicago, where he was employed by Harris Trust & Savings Bank. In 1971 he was elected to the position of vice president and cashier of University Bank, Green Bay. In 1975, Bill went to Shawano National Bank, Shawano, as its president and chief executive officer. His retirement as chairman of the board of Valley Bank of Shawano, successor to Shawano National Bank, was effective Dec. 31, 1985. After retirement, Bill and his wife, Norma, moved to De Pere.
Bill was past president of the Cleveland chapter of the American Institute of Banking and the Cleveland chapter of Robert Morris Associates. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, past member of the DesPeres Masonic Lodge No. 85, A.O.O.F. & AM, and was president of the Green Bay Lions Club. Bill also was involved with many other civic organizations throughout his life and was a private pilot assisting with the Shawano Civil Air Patrol. Bill and his wife, Norma, also spent many hours and days volunteering their time and efforts to those less fortunate. They also had many close friends throughout their lives that they loved dearly.
Bill is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Norma, who passed away on June 18, 2015; parents, Judge Edward and Jane Blythin; three brothers, Robert, Arthur and Glen; and one sister, Jane.
He is survived by his children, David Blythin (Sara Valentine) and Bonnie Brotz (Greg Kempf), seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Bill will sadly be missed by his family and friends. A private graveside service will be held in De Pere for final burial of both Bill and his loving wife, Norma.
