David Krueger has lent his expertise to several service organizations.
He was born in the town of DuPont and graduated from Marion High School. He went to vocational school in Appleton for two years for mechanics, then worked for several garages, including Ford Garage, Pontiac Garage, Tusler Pontiac and R&R Dodge.
For one year, Krueger was a welder at FWD before returning to work at Mayne Auto Sales, Klein Chrysler, Caroline Service Garage and Matt’s Auto Clinic. He retired 10 years ago.
Dave and his wife, Kathy, also retired, have been married 50 years and live in Caroline. They have a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Robyn, and three granddaughters.
Q Where do you volunteer?
A “I started out with the town of Grant Fire Department in 1964 and am a first responder. I’m still on the Clintonville Area Ambulance Service roster as a backup person. I go to all the meetings and go to the training. I started out as an EMT on the Tigerton Ambulance Service in 1976. I’m a 4-H leader and a Caroline Lions charter member.”
He served as president of the Caroline Cougars Ball Club for 20 years.
Q What do you do?
A “I was fire chief for the town of Grant Fire Department for 19 years. I’m EMS captain, president of Grant EMS associates. Last year we had 52 calls. That’s the most we ever had. It was a combination of accidents or health related calls. We cover the town of Grant, which is 6 square miles. On the first responders, sometimes we’re called to protect the other emergency personnel on the highway. First responders can’t do some of the things the EMTs can do. I’m an advanced EMT. I’ve been doing this 39 years.
“I’m a 4-H leader with the Caroline Aces 4-H club. Kathy was always a leader and still is. I don’t do anything specific but am there to help anybody who needs help.
“I’m a charter member of the Caroline Lions. I was the first vice president and the second year I was president. I am the membership chairman and treasurer. I’m in charge of safety at the Colorama. Now there are over 1,000 horses on the trail rides. I have people out on the roads where they cross the roads. We’ve got so many people who volunteer.”
Q Why do you volunteer?
A “Back when I was a kid, my mother raised five kids and took care of her parents. Us boys were volunteered to rake, mow lawns and shovel snow. Our pay back then was lemonade and a cookie. Helping is the right thing to do. It’s a small town, and there’s never too much help. You might see someone sick and you help them out, and you see them later and they thank you.”
