Cantata tradition returns to Gillett

For the first time in three years, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gillett is ready to present an Easter cantata. “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross,” written, arranged and orchestrated by Bradley Knight, is a 45-minute performance that includes many well-known Easter melodies and also some contemporary songs. A cantata is a narrative piece of music for voices with instrumental accompaniment.

Prevea to give tips on parenting via Zoom
Welcoming a child into the world is a life-changing experience that presents different challenges and questions for all parents. Dr. Shilpa Ullikashi, pediatrician at Prevea St. Mary’s Health Center in Green Bay, will host a Zoom presentation at 6 p.m.

SCMS band performs at capitol rotunda
The Shawano Community Middle School Band traveled down to the state capitol in Madison and filled it with sound during their free performance in the rotunda on March 24.

Lakes Country library plans fundraiser for expansion
The Lakes Country Public Library building expansion committee will hold a special kickoff fundraising dinner on May 14 at McCauslin Country Golf Course Clubhouse, 17067 Club House Lane, Lakewood. The event will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m. Dinner will be served at 6 p.m., followed by a short program detailing plans for the renovation and expansion.

Allergies should prompt folks to plan ahead
As the temperature in northeast Wisconsin continues to rise, allergists at Prevea Health are encouraging spring allergy sufferers to come up with a strategy to combat the upcoming season. From diagnosing preexisting allergies to recommending medications, allergists say now is the time to prepare for the start of the allergy season beginning in April or May. “We encourage our patients to come up with a plan before the allergy season starts,” said

Pathfinders to hold rummage sale April 3
The Lena Pathfinders have scheduled their 28th annual rummage sale for 8 a.m.-3 p.m. April 3 at the American Legion Hall, 412 E. Main Street, Lena. This sale provides funds for the Lena Seventh-day Adventist young people to enjoy club activities such as camping trips and purchasing supplies used towards completing over 480 honor badges. Along with the club activities, the youth are also involved in community service.

Oconto River Trout Unlimited Without any meetings during COVID, the Oconto River Watershed Chapter of Trout Unlimited scheduled its first meeting of 2022 for 7 p.m. April 12 at the Lone Oak Gun in Gillett. One of the main topics for gathering will be the “Go Fund Trout 2022,” which focuses on raising funds to stock trout in the main Oconto River at public access points from Suring to County BB south of Gillett.
