Sylvia Lynne Nueske, 81, of Wittenberg, passed away peacefully at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, lovingly surrounded by her family, on Sept. 30, 2026.
She was born April 30, 1945, in Euclid, Minnesota, to the late Ray and Edna Magsam. On March 16, 1963, she was united in marriage with William Harold Nueske, and together they had five children. Sylvia’s journey through this life was marked by kindness, strength and deep devotion to her faith and family.
William and Sylvia enjoyed farming together for many years. They also enjoyed fishing at their lakehouse in Upper Michigan where they made countless memories with their family and friends. Any time spent with loved ones was deeply cherished. Sylvia dedicated her life to others, taking care of them in every way that she could.
She loved baking and cooking — no one would ever leave hungry. She loved to sew and was eager to teach anyone who desired to learn. She found great joy in reading her bible, meeting with others in fellowship, singing hymns and playing them on the piano. She made her choice to serve God at a young age and remained faithful throughout her earthly journey.
Sylvia is survived by her husband; five children, Denise (Dan) Paquette, of Tigerton, Lana Lutynski, of Wittenberg, Annette (Keith) Klaty, of Junction City, Kansas, William (Kristy) Nueske, of Wittenberg, and Daniel (Carrie) Nueske, of Wittenberg; 19 grandchildren, Jordan (Gisela) Paquette, Jeremy (Stephanie) Paquette, Austin Paquette (fiancée Priscilla Clarke), Andrew (Valerie) Paquette, Tasha Lutynski, Toby Lutynski, Zachary (Ashley) Klaty, Stephanie (Calvin) Morrell, Courtney (Ted) Krisher, Devery (Brianna) Klaty, Riley (LeAnne) Klaty, Samuel (Jennifer) Nueske, Eric Nueske, Caitlin (Bryant) Pfingsten, Callie (Ethan) Quade, Estefanni Nueske, Miranda (Tony) Morrell, Jocelyn Nueske (fiancé Bruce Wintrow III) and Brayden Nueske; 30 great-grandchildren plus baby Sylvia expected in December and baby Klaty expected in February; five brothers, Elmer, Larry, Bill, Dean and Mark Magsam; and two sisters, Bertha Magsam and Marlys Martin.
She is also survived by Kelly Hanke, who they considered their son, and his children, Paul (Katie) Hanke and Erin (Casey) Waldvogel, and their children who they loved as grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered by each one that loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Gerald, Marvin, Gilbert, Rodney and Danny Magsam.
A visitation will take place on Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Wittenberg Elementary-Middle School gymnasium in Wittenberg, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. with Eric Nueske, Dorothy Lehman, Linda Woollum and Fred Skalitzky officiating. After the service, friends and family are welcome to attend the burial at Forest Home Cemetery in Wittenberg with a luncheon to follow at Wittenberg Elementary-Middle School. The service will be livestreamed on the Schmidt and Schulta Facebook page.
The Nueske family would like to thank Aspirus doctors and staff for their care and kindness. Also special thanks to friends and family for their love, care and support throughout the duration of Sylvia’s battle with cancer, which she fought so courageously.
