Ally Magnin of the Oconto Falls FFA competed against the best in the nation in the FFA creed-speaking contest and came away with a bronze emblem.
Magnin was one of 48 students to compete in the Creed Speaking Career Development Event at the national FFA convention Oct. 31 in Louisville, Ky. The contest is designed to recognize FFA members for their ability to present the National FFA Creed in a competitive setting.
“She did an amazing job and performed the creed the best she had ever performed it,” FFA adviser Crystal Retzlaff said.
The sophomore made school history as the first FFA member to compete in this contest at the national level.
The two individuals who advanced from her preliminary round were among the four competitors in the final round and earned gold emblems. Kira Eidson, of Illinois, placed first.
“The entire competition has been an amazing experience for me,” Magnin said.
She said she improved her speaking skills and learned more about agriculture by competing in the contest. She felt confident at nationals because of the extensive practice time spent with Retzlaff, FFA adviser Kaleb Santy and community members, she said.
The contest is sponsored by CHS Inc. as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
