Shawano, Bonduel win sectional volleyball matches

Oct. 31 Shawano 3, Mosinee 1 Shawano traveled to Mosinee for the first round of sectional action and returned home one game away from the state tournament. Shawano won 3-1 and will play Altoona at Merrill on Nov. 2 for the sectional title and the right to play at the Resch Center in Green Bay. All games against Mosinee were close battles. Shawano won the first game 25-18, then lost the second one 25-22. The Hawks prevailed in game 3, 25-16, and won the match with a 27-25 score in the fourth game. Bonduel 3, Oconto 0 The Bears are seeded No. 1 for a reason. They dispatched Oconto 3-0 to move one match closer to the state tournament. Bonduel won on game scores of 25-22, 25-21, 25-15. Bonduel was led offensively by Audrey Weier with 13 kills and 10 service points. She added eight digs. Josie Anvelink contributed eight kills and 13 digs. Strong offensive performances from Audrey Jacobs and Juliana Jacobs rounded out the offense. Audrey Jacobs had nine kills, and Juliana Jacobs had seven kills. Jayla Reinke facilitated the offense with 30 assists. “The match was definitely a team effort, both offensively and defensively, with strong contributions from all,” coach Abby Krull said. They will play Nov. 2 against Cedar Grove-Belgium at Brillion.
