Wolf River Lutheran High School The cross-country season is in full swing, and the Silver Eagles runners are looking forward to this week’s invitational at Bonduel High School. Wolf River Lutheran High School Athletic Director Steve Lehrke continues to coach cross-country, challenging his runners to push beyond their perceived limitations and teaching them principles of running, caring for injuries and maintaining good health. In addition to the core coursework required for graduation in the state of Wisconsin, WRLHS offers additional, specialized course offerings based on student interest and faculty availability. One elective offered during the 2012-13 year was Life Skills, taught by Jennifer Blake. During that class, some students made a blanket to donate as an outreach project. Mrs. Blake asked friends traveling to China in July to take the blanket with them and present it to a little girl named Fahlin, who lives in an orphanage in Henan province, China. Area students in grades 7-12 are invited to a lock-in Sept. 27 and 28 at Wolf River Lutheran High School. The Y-min (youth ministry) team from Concordia University-Wisconsin will come from Mequon to host the lock-in. Come join us for a fun overnight featuring devotions, games, activities, music, worship and food. This year’s theme is “Cast Away,” reminding students to cast their cares on God. Menominee Tribal School The school year is off to a super start at Menominee Tribal School. The students are keeping very busy whether they’re taking MAPS testing, learning more about PBIS, ricing or exerting themselves in fall sports. The students spent the first two days of school moving from station to station to learn about the expected behaviors in every area of the school, from busing to the playground to hallways and assemblies. Their “pawsports” were stamped and collected for a popsicle treat. They are learning how “The Bear Walks” to be safe, responsible and respectful. The first classes to reach their classroom goals were Mrs. Soik, Grade 1A, Mrs. Kinney, Grade 2, and Ms. Burr, Grade 4B. Their special treats were root beer floats. A daily traveling trophy adds to the incentive to make Tribal School a great place to learn and be. The fall sports are off and running. We have started tackle football, cross-country, flag football and volleyball. The tackle football players go to Menominee Indian Middle School and play with those students. We appreciate their willingness to let us co-op with them. The flag football team practices behind the school with Coach Markowski and Coach Marci Grignon. They will be playing KPS five times. The cross-country team had its first meet of the season at Bonduel on Tuesday. They are coached by Coach Clark and Coach Piaskowski. The volleyball team has been doing a super job of practicing with their coaches, Terri Wynos and Lisa Lyons Boyd. The grade 6-8 team will be playing MIMS on Monday. The grade 4-5 team will be playing KPS on Wednesday. Both of these matches will be at Menominee Tribal School at 4 p.m. All about the ricing next week. Gresham School On Saturday, the high school volleyball team had the Wildcat Kick-off. Junior Varsity got first place, and the varsity team got third place. On Monday night, our FFA chapter had its annual steak fry. It was a very successful night, and membership numbers are increasing. Students paid their dues, ate, received a calendar of events for the year and played some fun games. Also on Monday the middle school volleyball teams traveled to Menominee Indian Middle School for three matches. The sixth grade played well, the seventh grade won all three games, and the eighth grade won all three games. Kamille Davids had five service aces, and Hailey Hoffman had four aces and three kills. Tuesday morning was our schoolwide Caring Community lesson. Olga Brener Intermediate School The school year is well under way and off to a great start. Olga Brener’s staff has a few new faces. Please welcome Mr. LeRoy, Miss Lohmiller, Miss Retzlaff, Miss Hansen, Mrs. Popp and Ms. Schneidewend. On Sept. 11, Olga Brener students participated in different activities in the classroom and out, remembering those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. Our fifth-grade classes made a paper link for each life that was lost that day. They linked them together, took them to the playground and made a huge circle and had a moment of silence.
