Ruth M. Wirkus, 94, Gillett, formerly of Oak Creek, died Saturday morning, Nov. 1, 2014, at the Woodlands of Suring. She was born on June 6, 1920, in Milwaukee County to Fred and Clara (Mischke) Wolter.
On May 12, 1945, Ruth married Leonard Wirkus in Milwaukee. The couple lived in the Oak Creek area for most of their married lives until moving to Gillett 10 years ago. Ruth was a member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls.
Survivors are her husband of 69 years, Leonard Wirkus, Gillett; their three children, Susan (Ron) Willes, Gillett, Wayne (Jayne) Wirkus, Wind Lake, Keith (Sharon) Wirkus, Shawano; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and five sisters.
Visitation will be held after 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 6, at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Oconto Falls until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with the Rev. Matthew Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Wanderers Rest Cemetery, Gillett.
