On Wednesday, May 13, 2015, Jesus called the soul of Russell Oscar Clauss into heaven at the age of 79. Russell died peacefully at his home in Mayer, Arizona, after fighting a courageous battle with cancer.
“Bud” was born on Nov. 26, 1935, in Mattoon to Wilbert and Gena (Polluck) Clauss. He attended Shady Nook, a one-room schoolhouse and Mattoon High School. He married Shirley A. Maus at St. John Lutheran Church, Mattoon, on Dec. 5, 1953. Russell worked as a logger and farmer. He also worked at the Vulcan and Wausau Homes prior to moving to Arizona in 1985. While in Arizona, he worked as a maintenance person in Sun City and had his own construction business, building rooms in many retirement communities.
He enjoyed camping with family and friends and riding his UTV to explore the Arizona desert. He also enjoyed making unique handcrafted scrollsaw crafts.
Russell is survived by Shirley, his wife of 61 years, and eight children, Rodney (Teresa) Clauss, Ricky (Lori) Clauss, Gerald (Phyliss) Clauss, Sharlene (Jim) Meverden, all of Birnamwood, Timothy Clauss, Bowler, Thomas (Tammy) Clauss, Wittenberg, Marilyn (Gary) Begrow, Marion, and Peggy (Pete) Lesiewicz, Pikeville, Tennessee. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Joyce Kielman, of King, and three brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one granddaughter, one stepgrandson and several brother- and sisters-in-law.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
