Russell M. Robbins, 94, of the town of Wescott, Shawano, passed away at his home on Sunday morning, Sept. 28, 2014.
Russell was born at home in Shawano on April 23, 1920, a son of the late Herbert and Olga (Scheil) Robbins. He attended the Shawano schools, graduating from Shawano High School with the Class of 1938. On Aug. 16, 1941, he was united in marriage to the former Shirley Draper, and the couple made their home in Shawano. Russell had been involved in the movie theater business in Shawano in the 1950s. He owned and operated the Shawano Indoor Theater for over a decade. He then managed and operated the Shawano Outdoor Theater until the mid-1960s. Russell later worked for the Shawano City-County Library as the driver of the bookmobile for over 20 years. He was a licensed real estate broker and was the assessor of the town of Wescott. Russell also served as a supervisor on the Wescott Town Board.
Russell, along with his wife, Shirley, and their children, loved to take road trips in the car. He had a wonderful sense of humor and a very gentle demeanor. He was always very supportive of his family and showed a genuine interest in other people. He is a former member of the Shawano United Methodist Church. His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 13, 2008.
He is survived by his children, Greg (Barb) Robbins, of Pella,; Murray Robbins, of the town of Wescott; one granddaughter, Heather (Rick) Habeck, of Pella; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Nicholas Habeck.
Russell was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Russell Robbins, in 2012.
Private family services for Russell will be held. Pastor Karla Kirkeby will officiate. Interment will be in the Lake Drive Cemetery, town of Wescott.
