Richard B. Losse Sr., 98, of Mountain, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, in Oconto Falls. Born on March 29, 1916, in Milwaukee, he was the son of the late Otto and Armella (Odenbrett) Losse.
Dick proudly served his country by serving in the United States Army.
In August 1939 in Dubuque, Iowa, Richard was united in marriage to Eunice Johnson, who preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 2002.
Dick worked for Harley Davidson for 38 years, retiring in 1978. He started there at 30 cents an hour. He decided to quit and take that “infamous” ride on his Harley to California with his buddies. (He always said his mom did a lot of praying over him.) When he returned, he went back to Harley Davidson in 1940, this time at union wages of 60 cents an hour.
Motorcycles and engines flowed through his blood. He had the ability to repair and fabricate any part presented to him. This seemed to draw a lot of friends to him, or it could have been the beverages!
In his later years, the projects got less important, and the birds and chipmunks became his priority. He had many bird feeders, and the chipmunks literally ate out of his hand!
Richard loved his land, those animals and looking out for his neighbors.
Due to his failing health, his home for the last few years was Sharpe Care, where the bird feeders were up once again! “The window” was his world. He watched the birds, trains and the trees, even giving a wave to those coming and going.
Dick was a very rare person. Those who knew him felt lucky to have had him as a part of their lives.
Richard is survived by his son, Richard Losse Jr., of Alaska; six grandchildren, Rick (Lisa) Losse, of Green Bay, Rey Losse, of Milwaukee, Steven (Laur) Losse, of Wabeno, Heidi (Wade) Pirlot, of Colorado, Phil (Sheryl) Wozniak, of Mountain, and Michele Stanley, of Kansas; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Joanne Wippert.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice; his daughter, Bonnie Goul; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; his parents; and two sisters, Evelyn and Dorothy.
At Richard’s request, no immediate service will be held.
