Panthers take third at OFHS Invitational

Oconto Falls High School used two top finishes to claim third place Thursday in the girls portion of the 65th annual Oconto Falls Invitational. Algoma won the meet with 149 points. Senior Kayla Virtues won the shot put, landing a throw at 36 feet, 8 inches, and junior Bailey Wolf claimed the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 33.41 seconds at the state’s oldest invitational, which was held at Memorial Field for the final time. Next year the meet moves to the district’s new football stadium, which will include a multi-lane track, being built south of the high school between North Farm Road and County Road I. “I think the girls did really well,” first-year coach Karissa Kaiser said. “It was tough competition and third was good for us.” Prior to the start of the season, Kaiser was concerned about the team’s depth in the field events, but on Thursday, Vicky Kozlovsky provided a second-place finish in the shot put (36-07) and third in the discus (105-08), continuing the sophomore’s strong season. “Our throws in the field events have been our strength, actually,” Kaiser said. “Kayla and Vicky are in the top five in almost every meet this year.” Wolf also placed second in the 800-meter run and part of the third-place 4x400-relay team with juniors Josie Ausloos and Liza Leja and freshman Kennedy Kratz. “(Wolf’s) strengths are in the 800 and 1,600 events, and she has been first or second in every one of our meets,” Kaiser said. “I am hoping to see her improve more and more on her times throughout the season.” Sophomore Diane Moore notched second-place finishes in the 100 hurdles (17.68) and 300 hurdles (50.94.)
