There’s something about the blessing of women friendships. For support, bonding and a sounding-off board, along with encouragement and a promise of prayer, we women need each other. Men need each other, too, I suppose, but I’m not an expert in that alfalfa field.

$1M state grant awarded for Columbia Street
The Wisconsin Department of Administration has awarded the city of Oconto Falls $1 million of federal funding through the Community Development Block Grant program toward the reconstruction of Columbia Street in 2025. The grant matches city funding to rebuild the street, replace a lift station and utility infrastructure improvements.
Adults rescued from capsized sailboat
Area agencies and private citizens collaborated Aug. 11 in rescuing several people — and their dog — after a sailboat capsized on the bay of Green Bay. According to a news release from Deputy Chief Ryan Pecha of Oconto Fire and Rescue, officials were notified around 1:34 p.m. that a sailboat had capsized with three or four adults in the water wearing life jackets, along with one dog.

Celebrating 150 years of faith, worship
Ascension Lutheran Church of Navarino is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year. The small congregation will commemorate its 150th anniversary this fall. The church has been on the same plot of land since 1879. Fairgrounds lease gets committee approval
unsaved changes A new 10-year lease for the Shawano Area Agricultural Society to operate the Shawano County Fairgrounds took a step forward earlier this month. The Shawano County Public Property Committee on Aug. 8 approved the deal, which will be forwarded to the Shawano County Board for approval at its Aug. 28 meeting. Operation of the fairgrounds was subject to a 10-year deal that ran through Dec. 31, 2025.
