Ali, 36, a former Tigerton man serving a sentence at Jackson Correctional Institution in Black River Falls, pleaded guilty Sept. 11 to felony bail jumping and a misdemeanor charge of operating while revoked. Judge Katherine Sloma levied fines and fees totaling $1,411. • Jason K. Pyawasit, 45, Shawano, pleaded no contest Sept. 10 to fleeing an officer in his vehicle and a forfeiture offense of reckless driving endangering safety.

Library plan reaches county board
The Oconto County Board is expected to give final approval Sept. 19 to a five-year library services plan to cover the years 2025 to 2029, which includes a reduction in county support for five of the six local libraries in the county. The plan is the result of a nearly two-year study with a focus on reducing the property tax burden on the 11 “unlibraried” municipalities in the county, which otherwise do not support a local library.

With garden centers fully stocked with colorful annuals, perennials, shrubs, grasses and more, it’s a great time to give your garden a September update. In some cases, summer blooming annuals and perennials are still putting on a spectacular show into September.

Skeleton in closet leads to harrowing mystery
“Llama See That Evidence” by Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love was better than I expected. It is the second in the Friendship Harbor series of cozy mysteries. Sophie LaFleur grew up in California and became an actress starring in the series “Murder She Texted.” About the time the series was canceled, Sophie learned that she had inherited her grandmother’s estate in Friendship Harbor, Maine.

Council OKs second Trick or Treat Trail
The Oconto Falls City Council on Sept. 10 approved a community event application for the second annual Trick or Treat Trail, but council members said they hope organizers resolve the parking issues that plagued the first event a year ago. The free Trick or Treat Trail is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 26 at West Side Beach Trail.

Annexation could solve middle school speed limit woes
The solution to the speed limit issues near the new Oconto Falls Middle School may be for the city to annex the road, City Administrator Peter Wills has told the Oconto Falls City Council. School officials have experienced frustration in their efforts to have the speed limit reduced along County Road I near the new school, which is scheduled to open in September 2025.

Shawano golfers tighten race for conference lead
Sept. 12 Bay Conference Mini-Meet No. 7 Shawano golfers edged closer to overtaking Seymour for the conference lead, as the Hawks won at Mid-Vallee Golf Course in West De Pere. “We needed to win today to have a chance of winning the Bay Conference, because Seymour was leading the conference by six points over Shawano,” coach Dean Kugler said.

Miller is medalist
Sept. 9 Luxemburg-Casco Oconto Falls golfers were only one stroke off the lead when they competed against Fox Valley Lutheran and Luxemburg-Casco at Northbrook Golf and Grill. The Panthers scored a 212, while Fox Valley Lutheran had a 211 and Luxemburg-Casco had a 216. Oconto Falls senior Taylor Miller was the medalist with a 47.
