Bowman pleads not guilty in arson case

Bowler resident Amanda Bowman pleaded not guilty Nov. 4 to charges of arson, attempted first-degree intentional homicide and six counts of felony bail jumping. A pre-trial hearing has been scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 7 in Branch I of the Shawano County Courthouse.
Schools win big in Nov. 5 election
Nov. 5 was a good day for local school referenda as both Shawano and Bonduel’s measures passed voter scrutiny. The Shawano School District’s capital referendum passed on its second go-around, with 5,538 voters saying yes to $51.2 million in bonds, comprising 59.7% of the 9,277 votes cast in the district.
$46K raised for Boys & Girls Club
Purses for a Purpose made a few changes at its annual fundraiser, but its dedication to supporting the Boys and Girls Club hasn’t wavered. Huge turnout powers Oconto County election
A full 80% of eligible Oconto County voters cast ballots in the 2024 general election, County Clerk Kim Pytleski said Nov. 6. “I’m so proud of Oconto County,” Pytleski said as she collected sealed bags full of ballots from a parade of municipal clerks at the courthouse in Oconto. Election Day for Pytleski and dozens of polls workers began long before the polls opened across the county at 7 a.m.

Ruby Hinkfuss
Ruby Ione Hinkfuss, 87, of Gillett, passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, with loved ones after fighting a hard battle with cancer. She was born on Jan. 26, 1937, in the family farmhouse located in Dunn County. She grew up in Springs Brook and graduated from Durand High School in 1956. After graduating from high school, she worked on multiple family-owned farms for many years, enjoying her time driving the farm equipment and milking cows.
Daniel P. Jagla
Daniel P. Jagla, 75, of Townsend, passed away peacefully at The Cottages on Sunday morning, Oct. 27, 2024. Daniel was born in Shawano on March 17, 1949, a son of the late Daniel and Betty (Humboldt) Jagla. He attended Wabeno High School and graduated with the class of 1967. On Sept. 18, 1969, Daniel was drafted into the United States Army where he served through March 1, 1971. He then reenlisted on Dec.
Peters named top defensive player of 2024

Kristof named volleyball defensive specialist
Suring High School senior Emma Kristof was named the defensive specialist in the Marinette & Oconto Conference all-conference list for 2024. Joining here with first team honors were Lena High School seniors Eva Brooks and Peyton Dorow. Gillett High School sophomore Audrey Pate and Suring sophomore Lexi Remic were named to the second team. Honorable mention status was earned by Suring freshman Ellayna Skarban.
Allen 'Albert' P. Osterbrink
Allen “Albert” P. Osterbrink, 70, of Eland, passed away on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at home, under the care of his family and St. Croix Hospice, after a long battle with cancer. Allen was born on Aug. 25, 1954, in Wausau, the son of Philip and Adalyne (Houf) Osterbrink. On Sept. 22, 1984, Allen was united in marriage to Marnie A.
