Seniors get news they can use

Anne E. Baldwin
Anne E. Baldwin, 87, New London, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at Evergreen Care Center, Shawano. She was born on July 8, 1926, in Pray to the late Paul and Anna (Mazur) Jagielo. (They were early Wisconsin homesteaders.) On Sept. 1, 1945, Anne was united in marriage to Robert Baldwin in Little Rock, Ark. They lived on a farm north of New London from 1962-2008. Bob preceded her in death in 2006.

Auto theft suspect was passenger in May spree
A 13-year-old girl taken into custody Tuesday after allegedly stealing a van had been a passenger in a car theft spree in May, according to police. Police received a call at 5:25 a.m.

Gresham renovates gym, library
Students returning to Gresham Community School in September should notice a few changes. Replacement work is under way on the gymnasium floor, which school officials said had been in place for at least 20 years. Stalker Flooring, based in New London, is doing the floor work, estimated to cost $103,000. According to business manager Holly Burr, the gym also received a fresh coat of paint. Public cooling centers open
Shawano and Menominee counties opened public cooling centers Wednesday and will reopen them Thursday and Friday for citizens looking for some relief to this week’s dangerous heat wave. A heat advisory issued by the National Weather service is in effect until 5 p.m. Friday. Temperatures have been reaching into the mid 90s this week.

Bonduel shuts out Marion/Tigerton
Jake Luepke pitched six scoreless innings and allowed only three hits Wednesday in a 10-0 six-inning Bonduel victory over Marion/Tigerton in an American Legion game at Jack Reinke Field in Bonduel. Sheriff dissatisfied with evidence solution
Some written comments from Sheriff Randy Wright about the ongoing evidence storage issue have prompted a sharp response by members of the Shawano County Finance Committee. Wright is considering three courses of action to resolve the issue: hiring an attorney on sheriffs’ rights on the county’s dime, taking the evidence storage building to the voters in a referendum, and involving the U.S.
