Commission signs off on TIF amendments

The Shawano Plan Commission this week signed off on a set of amendments to three of the city’s Tax Increment Finance (TIF) districts aimed at giving an additional boost to economic development in those areas. TIF districts are areas where municipalities invest in infrastructure, such as sewer and water, to attract development where it might not otherwise occur, or to make improvements, such as eliminating blight. Local WIC unaffected by shutdown for now
The Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) in Shawano County and elsewhere in the state is still up and running in spite of a government shutdown at the national level. “It’s business as usual,” said Susan Hansen, clinic outreach specialist for the program in Shawano County. Committee cuts builders group a break
The Wolf River Builders Association, citing the roller coaster economy, asked the Public Property Committee on Friday for a break on its rental fees. The final decision was dropping the fee from $500 a day to $350.

Letter: October recognizes Wisconsin manufacturing
To the editor: The state of Wisconsin uses the month of October to recognize manufacturing. The Shawano Community High School Technology Education Department wanted an opportunity to talk about the many changes that have occurred since last school year. With the new renovations, we were able to create a room specializing in Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) technologies.

The student’s enthusiasm and the community’s support are always apparent. I’ve heard numerous positive comments about coach Alan Tomow. Go, Shawano Hawks! In addition to homecoming events, there is so much going on in and around our community today (Saturday).

Hawks lose to Denmark The Shawano Community High School volleyball team lost to Bay Conference foe Denmark 3-0 Thursday in Shawano. The Hawks (1-4) lost to Denmark (3-2) 25-7, 25-15, 25-18. Shawano’s Bella Gonzalez had three kills and three blocks.

Hawks shut out Thunder 5-0
There was plenty of rain, but not much Thunder at Tuesday’s Bay Conference Tournament soccer match between Shawano and Seymour.
