Witt-Birn wrestling team qualifies for state

The Wittenberg-Birnamwood High School wrestling team took home a Division 2 team sectional championship Tuesday, defeating host Freedom 35-33. In Division 3 action, Menominee Indian fell to Crandon. Witt-Birn wrestlers earning pins were Bobby Uttecht (132), over Dustin Jensen in 3 minutes, 56 seconds, Griffin Magee (152), over Tanner Borckman in 2:38, and John White Wing (285) over Matt Evers in 1:12. Marcella Ann Rusch
Marcella Ann Rusch, 71, of Pulaski, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at her home. Born on June 4, 1942, in Appleton, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Luella (Witt) Klitzke. Marcella grew up in the Seymour area. On Oct. 1, 1960, she was united in marriage to Leon R. Rusch in Seymour. After marriage the couple made their home and raised their family in the town of Angelica.

Jerome F. “Jerry” Bukoski
Jerome F. “Jerry” Bukoski, 58, of the town of Washington, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014, at his home. Born on Dec. 23, 1955, in Pound, he was the son of the late Harry and Theresa (Konowalski) Bukoski. On Aug. 4, 1978, he was united in marriage to Connie Sperberg in Oconomowoc. Jerry cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren whether he was teaching them to play the guitar or taking them ice fishing.

Sturgeon Park gazebo waiting for warmer weather
A gazebo at Sturgeon Park being donated by the Shawano Rotary is set to begin construction soon, or at least as soon as the weather starts cooperating. Scott Nordin, who designed the gazebo and sought construction proposals on behalf of the Rotary, recently told the Shawano Finance Committee that frost in the soil is the only thing holding the project back. “As soon as it thaws out we can get going,” he said. Rustic Resort destroyed by fire
A popular business that had been a staple of the town of Belle Plaine, gathering place and venue for countless community events for decades was destroyed by fire Wednesday. Firefighters were called out about 9:40 a.m. and arrived to find the Rustic Resort and Banquet Hall, W8466 Rustic Drive, already engulfed in flames. Some time later, by early afternoon, the roof collapsed.

Lynn A. Jaeger-Borley
Lynn A. Jaeger-Borley, 67, of Green Bay, passed away Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 2014, at a local hospital after a long battle with heart disease. Lynn was born on Dec. 18, 1946, to Emil and Deloris (Krause) Jaeger in Oconto Falls. She graduated from Oconto Falls High School with the Class of 1964.

Agnes M. “Angie” Murphy, 89, Green Bay, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014. She was born on July 26, 1924, in Green Bay to the late Thomas and Francis (Wygralak) Taylor. Angie married the love of her life, Maurice “Morris” Murphy, in October 1945.

Hobert A. ‘Hobie’ Lubas
Hobert A. “Hobie” Lubas, 78, Brookside, passed away Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at home from cancer. He was born March 5, 1935, in Oconto to the late Albert and Oneda (Gering) Lubas. Hobert married Carol Baranczyk on June 7, 1961. He was an area logger, sawyer and farmer. He served in the United States Army and was the Machickanee American Legion Post commander for one term.

Run-water order issued in the Falls
Due to the deep frost in the ground, Oconto Falls Municipal Utilities issued a run-water order on Feb. 12. Residents and businesses are required to leave one faucet running at all times. The cold water should be running in a trickle or a stream less than the size of a pencil. Gillett and Lena issued a similar notice. The city of Oconto sent letters to about 200 residents requesting they keep a faucet running.
