Virginia “Virgie” Damp, an active leader in the Oconto Falls FFA Alumni affiliate, is one of four recipients of the 2014 National FFA Alumni Outstanding Achievement Award. She accepted the award at the National FFA Alumni Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Damp was cited for her dedication and leadership in supporting FFA members and agriculture education programs at the local, state and national levels.

The Gillett Library, 200 E. Main St., will have an ice skating rink this winter in the Community Square space adjacent to the library. The goal is to have the rink open to the public by early January. Skating will be available for free, just bring your own skates. The library is waiting for quotes from local contractors for the addition of a second bathroom in the Community Center building.

The seventh annual Christmas cantata at St. John’s Lutheran Church will be performed at three evening concerts and one Sunday morning performance. Performances are 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19, and Saturday, Dec. 20 and 27 and 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28. All evening performances will be followed by a reception in the fellowship hall. This year’s cantata is “The Night Before Christmas,” created by Joel Lindsey, Twila LaBar and J.

Dorothea Jaeger, 84, Oconto Falls, died Thursday evening, Dec. 4, 2014, at home. She was born Oct. 23, 1930, at her childhood home to Michael and Wanda Schafrik. On Oct. 1, 1949, she married Clarence Jaeger, and together they owned and operated a family farm. Dorothea loved quilting and sewed several quilts for family members and hundreds for World Relief.

Dennis W. Schroeder, 70, of 214 E. Main St., Gillett, died on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee. Dennis was born on Nov. 4, 1944, in Shawano to the late Walter and Agnes (Rusch) Schroeder. He was a proud member of the U.S. Army where he drove a deuce and a half truck and was the recipient of Sharp Shooting medals. Dennis was united in marriage to Gloria Hanstedt on July 10, 1971, in Shawano at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Dolores H. Schroeder, 84, Morgan, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, 2014, at St. Clare Memorial Hospital following numerous health complications. She was born March 26, 1930, at home in the town of Green Valley to Adolph and Esther (Klosterman) Froelich. Dolores grew up on her family farm and attended Grand View Grade School and graduated from Bonduel High School with the Class of 1948. On May 26, 1951, she married Alvin R.

Ronald Reinert, 82, of Thiensville, formerly of Oconto Falls, died Thursday evening, Dec. 4, 2014, at home. The youngest of eight children, he was born July 5, 1932, in Oconto Falls to Jacob and Marie (Selke) Reinert. Ron grew up in Oconto Falls where he attended public schools. As a young man he served in the U.S. Army from 1956-1958 and was stationed in Germany. On May 14, 1960, he married Lucille Cook in Lena.

Shirley Ann Lisowe-Beaumia, 82, Oconto Falls, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 2, 2014, at St. Clare Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 27, 1932, in Stiles to George and Philomene (Gegare) Tappa. Shirley grew up in the Stiles area where she attended country school. On May 13, 1950, she married Mathew Lisowe in Lena. Following their marriage the couple lived in Suamico and Stiles before moving to Oconto Falls.

Gillett School District representatives on Thursday outlined a “rare opportunity” for the district to complete much-needed maintenance projects, yet reduce the tax levy. About 30 people learned about a plan for campuswide energy conservation upgrades, plus secondary school improvements related to plumbing, heating, ventilation and roofing.
