Suring High School commencement exercises will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 30, in the high school gymnasium.

The Suring High School boys and girls track teams each placed first Thursday at the six-team Hilbert Invitational. The Suring girls finished 62.5 points ahead of second-place Wrightstown (118). Hilbert-Stockbridge was third at 111.50. Sophomore Katie Stegeman finished first in the 1,600-meter run, at 5 minutes, 56.57 seconds, and high jump (4 feet, 10 inches).

Behind two first-place finishes by junior Bailey Wolf, the Oconto Falls High School girls track team took third Thursday at the 12-team Peshtigo Invitational. The Panthers accumulated 111 points, 42 behind meet winner Kewaunee (153). Marinette was second with 129.33 points. Wolf took first place in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. “Her consistency has been amazing all year,” coach Karissa Kaiser said.

A week after capturing its invitational, the Oconto Falls High School boys track team was unable to repeat the performance Thursday at the 37th annual Peshtigo Invitational. Peshtigo (98.50) won the meet, one-half point ahead of Kewaunee. Oconto Falls (91) finished third. “We kept the same people in the same events, and we were only eight points from the winner,” Panthers coach Lon Ludemann said.

Gillett Secondary School’s track teams earned three first-place finishes Thursday at the 37th annual Peshtigo Invitational. Senior Akeem Bates won the long jump and triple jump, and classmate Max Zeitler won the 3,200-meter run. None of the Gillett girls finished better than third. Both the Gillett boys and girls squads finished eighth among 12 schools.

Oconto Falls High School won both the boys and girls portions of the Oconto County Meet held Monday at Oconto High School. The Panther boys placed first in 11 of 18 events, including two victories from seniors Mike Friedman (800-meter run, 1,600) and Jacob Yatso (100, triple jump).

SOFTBALL West De Pere 8 Oconto Falls 4 Oconto Fallls could not bounce back after allowing six runs the first two innings in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday at West De Pere. Oconto Falls (3-14, 2-9 Bay Conference) had multi-hit games from Liz Manns (2 for 4) and Brittany Russell (2 for 3 with two RBIs). Sabrina Brasier chipped in two runs. West De Pere’s Jennifer Timm went 4 for 4 with four RBIs.

BASEBALL Seymour 6 Shawano 4 Jack Hanuer went 2 for 3 but was one of the few bright spots in Shawano's home loss Monday. Nate Laude took the loss for Shawano (9-7, 6-5 Bay Conference). He worked three innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits. He struck out two and walked two. Winning pitcher Phil Grelecki went five innings.

Police were called to Christus Church in Clintonville on Sunday morning after a call alerting them to a distraught and possibly suicidal parishioner with a gun. Pastor Brian Crocker told police about 10:30 a.m. that the man had made a threatening comment in the presence of another parishioner while armed with a .357 revolver and extra ammunition.
