Mary Jane Mortier, 79, Oconto Falls, died Sunday evening, Nov. 8, 2015, at an Oconto health care facility. She was born Jan. 15, 1936, in Green Bay to Clarence and Ella (Corrigan) Everard. During National Fire Prevention Week in October, Safe Kids Oconto County teamed up with fire departments and businesses to deliver fire prevention information to area residents. Students completed a consent form distributed at their schools, and families are selected at random to receive a fire prevention message. A fire truck arrived at each winner’s home, and firefighters checked the home for working smoke detectors.

At my high school class reunion in September, my co-emcee Russ Walske told a funny joke about a three-legged chicken. As I remember it, it went like this: I was driving along a rural road one day when I saw a three-legged chicken running down the road. I was amused enough to drive alongside it for a while, and I noticed the chicken was running 30 miles per hour. “Pretty fast chicken,” I thought.

Six couples with Mustang and Corvette convertibles made the Quad County trip on Oct. 13. He pleaded not guilty to felony charges of injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle, two counts, injury by use of vehicle PAC, two counts, and reckless driving causing great bodily harm, two counts, which allegedly occurred Sept. 7 in Lakewood. An Oconto Falls man, 36, was taken into custody on Oct. 16 on Main Street for outstanding warrants. An Oconto Falls man, 29, was arrested o Oct. 16 on South Franklin Street for recklessly cause bodily harm to a child. A theft complaint at Oconto Falls High School was determined to be unfounded on Oct. 19. An Oconto Falls man, 82, reported he was the target of a phone scam on Oct. 20, but he did not disclose any personal or financial information.

Gillett resident Bruce Windorski, reported missing on Oct. 17, was located on the evening of Nov. 4, according to a statement released by the Gillett Police Department. “He’s safe and well, for the most part, and is reunited with his family,” Police Chief Jess Keplinger announced at Thursday’s City Council meeting. Keplinger said the case drew national attention.
