The Shawano County Historical Society will hold its 17th annual Rhubarb Fest from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 21 at Heritage Park, 524 N. Franklin St., Shawano. On this day, the main attraction is rhubarb. Participants will get to taste it in a variety of bake sale items, including pies, tortes, cakes, muffins, cookies and breads — all homemade by dedicated volunteers.

The village of Bonduel has been accepted into the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s (WEDC) Connect Communities Program, an initiative that works with communities to advance downtown and historic commercial corridor revitalization efforts. Bonduel is one of seven communities that will join the program this fall, bringing the total number of participants to 101. The Connect Communities Program was launched in January 2013.

How long Jacob Rudnick will spend in prison for three counts of sexual assault is a question whose answer has been pushed back two months. Rudnick, 31, pleaded guilty in January to a felony count of third-degree sexual assault and two counts of misdemeanor fourth-degree sexual assault. His sentencing hearing was scheduled for May 28 but had to be rescheduled for 1:30 p.m.

For Patrick Firgens, being a gay man living on the Menominee Reservation was something he’s always known. However, there is another aspect to his life: being two-spirit. The term two-spirit did not exist when Firgens was born 52 years ago.

Farmers and country neighbors pitch in, noticing when there’s something amiss — sometimes without even asking, stop and offer help. It’s heartwarming and appreciated beyond words. Mowing lawn, I glanced down at my cell and noticed a call from my husband, who was chisel plowing in a field about a mile from the farm. My heart sunk.

Ronald W. Britzke, 72, of Clintonville, passed away May 27, 2025, at Greentree Health and Rehabilitation Center, Clintonville. The Eberhardt-Stevenson Funeral Home & Crematory, Clintonville, is assisting the family.

May 27 Division 1, Green Bay Preble Pulaski’s track teams will be represented in more than two dozen events at sectionals, following their strong performance at regionals. The girls, with 157 points, won among the eight teams.

Division 2, Waupaca Shawano and Oconto Falls’ girls teams tied for first place with 122 points each, followed by Wittenberg-Birnamwood in fourth with 89 and Menominee Nation in eighth with 19. For the boys, Shawano was second with 104 points, followed by Oconto Falls in third with 99.5, Wittenberg-Birnamwood in firth with 82 and Menominee Nation in eighth with 33.5.
