Yarie logs Modified, Australian Pursuit wins

The first Saturday of August proved to be a beautiful night for racing at the Shawano Speedway. The IMCA Modified was the first of five feature races. John Peters used a front row starting spot to his advantage to jump out to the early lead. Peters led the way for several laps as Eric Scribner, Marcus Yarie, Jason Czarapata and Jared Siefert battled behind him. Yarie took over second place from Scribner on lap 6 as Peters maintained a solid lead. On lap 12 Peters’ night would end early because of engine problems. Peters’ unfortunate luck would help Yarie grab the lead as Brad Rohloff made his way into the top four. Problems would end Scribner’s night on lap 13, leaving Rohloff, Siefert and Czarapata all aiming for Yarie, but as the checkers flew on lap 20 it was Yarie taking the win. IMCA Stock Cars The strongly competitive IMCA Stock Cars would take the track next and this feature did not disappoint. Vern Stedjee took the lead on lap 1. Behind the leader, Dan Michonski, Brandon Czarapata and Rod Snellenberger were moving fast. By lap 5 Michonski had taken over the lead. Mitch Stankowski worked hard to maintain a top four spot, but Michonski ‘s smooth driving helped him maintain the lead. Snellenberger, Czarapata and Stankowski all made it a battle, and Justin Jacobsen added to the excitement as they headed for the checkered flag, but Michonski was victorious. IMCA Sport Mods In the IMCA Sport Mods feature, Tristin Peebles used his pole starting spot to gain the early lead. Peebles would lead the race for seven laps as Mike Sortino, Lucas Lamberies, Jason Jach and a hard-charging Cody Hudson all raced toward the front. As Lamberies, Peebles and Jach battled to catch Hudson, Cody Hokenstadt was working his way through the field after starting 15th. In the end, it was Hudson with the win, using patience and opportunity on the high side to make his way from 10th to first by lap 8. Late Models Aaron Wickersheim and Aaron Bennett led the field in the Shawano Late Model feature. Bennett took the early lead but not for long as Troy Springborn found his way to the top spot after lap 3. As Springborn ran in first, Ron Berna and Jeff Curtin battled for second, and Joel Bennett began to make his way toward the front of the pack after starting 10th. Springborn’s car was dialed in for the rest of the race even as he went on through lapped traffic to earn the win, with Berna coming home second and Curtin finishing third. Mighty 4s The Mighty 4s were the last feature of the evening. Travis Welch and Carl King started on row 1 in the field of 18 cars. As the green dropped, Grant Kastning was scored first for two laps, but Jasper Drengler was the man on the move, starting 11th and taking over the lead from Kastning on lap 3. As Drengler continued to lead, Calvin Stueck, Brad Wedde and Kasey Gross were engaged in a battle near the leader. Drengler took the white flag on lap 11, but a caution then sent the scoring back to lap 10 for the final standings, and it was Drengler who headed to victory lane. IMCA Modifieds The Australian Pursuit race for the IMCA Modifieds capped the night of racing. In the Australian Pursuit race, any car that gets passed from where it was on the previous lap is sent off the track. Mark Weisnicht started in first, but Marcus Yarie found the groove in a fast car that took the feature win earlier. Yarie passed five cars in seven laps. As the checkered flag flew, it was Weisnicht barely edging out Yarie to claim the win.
