The Shawano/Bonduel girls swimming team beat Marinette 103-67 in a Bay Conference meet Tuesday at Shawano Community High School.
“It was a very solid win,” Shawano/Bonduel coach Sharon Hanson said. “This meet was fun because we kind of knew we had to change it up a little bit.”
Despite some swimmers trying different events, the Hawks won nine of the 11 varsity events.
“They did awesome,” Hanson said. “People really pulled through.”
Shawano took the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay to build a 12-2 lead in the first event of the day. The team of Carlie Hinnefeld, Clare Martell, Ali Hanson and Whitney Banker took first with a time of 2:03.24. The team of Ailysh Tetting, Alyssa Anker, Emme Quandt and Lydia Colon took second with a time of 2:0716.
“Our relays did really well,” Sharon Hanson said. “We set up our relays. We kind of stacked them on the front end. It worked really, really well. It kind of gives us an idea where those relays are for the conference meet.”
The Hawks were up 32-23 by the break, during which the Shawano/Bonduel swimmers honored their parents.
“They were really excited,” said Sharon Hanson, who, like the other parents, received a rose from her daughter, Ali. “It’s fun.”
Martell, a junior, took first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:23.84. She also won the breaststroke, finishing in 1:10.63.
Quandt, a sophomore, won the 500 freestyle, finishing in 6:03.11. Colon, a freshman, finished in 6:26.34 to take second. Quandt also took second in the 200 individual medley, finishing in 2:33.68.
Anker, a junior, won the 50 freestyle with a time of 27.43. Hinnefeld, a sophomore, finished in 28.30 to take third. Anker later won the 100 freestyle with a time of 1:01.08. Tetting, a senior, took second with a time of 1:06.97.
Hanson, a senior, won the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.68, breaking the minute mark for a personal best. Banker, a senior, took third with a time of 1:22.08.
Hanson also won the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:02.44. Hinnefeld was second with a time of 1:09.23.
The team of Martell, Tetting, Anker and Hanson took first in the 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:49.80. Banker, junior Hayleigh Kroll, freshman Peyton Hrabik and Hinnefeld finished third in 1:59.34.
Colon, Quandt, Kroll and Hrabik teamed up to take second in the 400 freestyle, finishing in 4:40.08.
In junior varsity action, Shawano won 78-30.
