Alvin B. Schmidt, 83, of Tigerton, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at his home.
Alvin Bernard Schmidt was born May 6, 1931, in Oshkosh to Frederick and Annetta (Nero) Schmidt. He graduated from Tigerton High School in 1952. Alvin worked for some time in the Men’s Department at Sears and as manager at the Montgomery Ward Store, both in Winona, Minnesota. For over 30 years, he enjoyed managing an apartment building complex in Winona. His favorite pastime was researching and identifying old photos, especially from the Split Rock area. Alvin was also interested in genealogy and other local history. He will be remembered most as a generous and caring man with a wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors include his best friend, Carol Fredrick, of Shawano; a sister, Helen Krueger, of Marion; and a brother, Raymond Schmidt, of Split Rock. There are two sisters-in-law, Charolette Schmidt, of Madison, and Melly Schmidt, of Defiance, Ohio. Alvin is further survived by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Frances; four brothers, Frederick, Harold, Junnie and Roy E. Schmidt. Alvin is further preceded by three sisters-in-law, Betty Lund, Carol Schmidt and Dorothy Schmidt; a brother-in-law, John Krueger; and six half-sisters, infant Martha Schmidt, Linda Westphal, Amanda Westphal, Doris Beyer, Clara Pautsch and Bernice Latchford.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Oct. 24, at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Cemetery, Split Rock, with the Rev. Craig Nehring officiating.
