Hunter Berry scored four times, and the Bonduel High School football team knocked Central Wisconsin Conference-8 foe Manawa from the playoffs in a 49-13 win Friday in Bonduel.
“We were a little nervous,” Bonduel offensive coordinator Dave LaBerge said. “We knew they had to win to get into the playoffs.”
After a Dan Tauchen touchdown put the Bears (7-2, 5-2 CWC-8) up 7-0, Berry scored the next four, three rushing and one receiving, as Manawa’s defense focused on stopping Hunter VanDerLinden.
“(Manawa) really did a nice job. They tried to take Hunter VanDerLinden out of the game,” LaBerge said. “Once we started using our other backs, our other weapons, things really started opening up for us.”
Berry finished with five carries for 155 yards. He also had an interception.
“Hunter Berry doesn’t get a ton of carries, but when he does, he sure makes the most of them,” LaBerge said. “He averages over 10 yards a carry on the year. After tonight he’s probably up to more.”
VanDerLinden had 17 rushes for 66 yards and a touchdown. Tauchen finished with 11 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Colton Dobratz was 4 for 8 for 68 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
The Bears’ defense limited Manawa running back Adam Langman to 89 yards on 25 carries. Quarterback Brandon Rohloff was 8 of 19 for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception.
Bonduel, which qualified for the WIAA playoffs last week, will learn its seed and opponent at the seeding meeting Saturday. The Bears could be in line to host a playoff game Friday.
