Russell L. Cummings, 69, of Bowler, formerly of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 22, 2014, while working on the farm with his son.
Russell was born Jan. 18, 1945, in Antigo, a son of the late Melvin and Velma (Brandt) Cummings. He attended the Antigo schools and was a graduate of Antigo High School. Following graduation from high school, he farmed his family’s homestead in Birnamwood. Russell was later employed as a lead man at Warvel’s Wood Working Mill in Gillett for over 22 years.
On Sept. 15, 2011, he was united in marriage to Ruth Lindner in Shawano. The couple made their home in Bowler. He, along with his wife, attended St. Jakobi Lutheran Church in the town of Richmond. He was an avid gardener who grew vegetables to share with his family. Russell recently took up the role of becoming a chicken farmer, a gift to his wife, Ruth.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth, of Bowler; three daughters, Cindy (Dave) Yonker, of Tigerton, Jill Gutt, of Bowler, and Nancy (Kevin) Hitt, of Antigo; one son, Wayne (Diane McKinney) Cummings, of Mattoon; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Russell is further survived by one sister, Sharon (Gary) Popek, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Russell was preceded in death by a brother, Aaron Cummings.
In keeping with Russell’s wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral services.
