The Shawano Allied Veterans have a number of activities going on next week to remember those who serve in the U.S. armed forces.
Two public programs will take place on Veterans Day.
Shawano Community Middle School, 1050 S. Union St., Shawano, will host veterans with its annual program at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. Dennis Bohm of AMVETS, who served as a Marine, will be the main speaker. Student Matthew Schwitzer will also speak, and the school’s band and chorus will perform.
The Community observance kicks off at 11 a.m. Tuesday in front of the Shawano County Courthouse, 311 N. Main St., Shawano. Ron Buettner will be the main speaker, and Korean War veterans Junior Jahnke and Bob Seehafer will present the wreath. Ava Retzlaff will sing the national anthem, while Bill Rosin, president of the Allied Veterans Council, will lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
In case of rain, the courthouse observance will be held in the basement.
In addition to the public observances, the Allied Veterans will be visiting veterans in local nursing homes. A breakfast will take place at Manor Care, and the Allied Veterans will go to Birch Hill for lunch, followed by stoops at Oakhaven and Evergreen.
The Allied Veterans will also conduct programs for St. James Lutheran School and Sacred Heart Catholic School in Shawano on Wednesday. The program at St. James starts at 10:45 a.m. and at 11:45 a.m. at Sacred Heart.
