WHY IT MATTERS: The Shawano Community High School boys basketball team (3-1, 2-1 Bay Conference) lost to Seymour (5-1, 3-0 Bay) Friday on the road. The Hawks face another big road Bay Conference test Friday in Luxemburg-Casco (5-0, 3-0 Bay). The Spartans, who finished fifth in the conference last year, are senior heavy and could make a jump this year. They’ve already handed West De Pere (3-2, 2-1 Bay) a loss this season. Luxemburg-Casco would like nothing better than to hand another top Bay team a loss.
WRESTLING
WHAT: Shawano Holiday Classic
WHEN: 10 a.m. Saturday
WHERE: Shawano Community High School
WHY IT MATTERS: The Shawano Holiday Classic wrestling tournament is a local tradition. Dating back 29 years, the tournament draws some of the area’s best teams for a daylong tournament. Local teams participating this year include Central Wisconsin Conference powerhouses Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Bonduel. The tournament gives grapplers an early test for the format they’ll face come tournament time.
