New resolution added to annual plans

There is something about the start of a new year that makes us think it is a clean slate. Humans think that with a new year, they can turn over a new leaf, just like they turned the calendar from 2014 to 2015. Unfortunately, while many resolutions are made, very few are kept for an extended period of time. I am sticking by my usual resolutions to eat healthier and to exercise more. That might sound a bit boring, but I know that I physically feel better when I am following those things than when I don’t. I, for one, am always looking to feel better, so it should be a no-brainer to follow the two to the letter. However, I find that it is easy to cheat off of my diet on occasion, and unfortunately, those occasions include Christmas and New Year’s. Although, fewer cookies and fudge were made this holiday season, there are still some left over. I asked everyone who was here for our Christmas gathering to please take as many cookies as they wanted. Everyone took some, but still, there are too many left. For now they are in the refrigerator in the garage. One granddaughter is coming this week yet, so I am sure she will want some peanut butter cookies. There still will be too many cookies left, so then it will be time to take them places, or put them in the freezer or something. I do not want to eat them. I have convinced myself of that for now. The fudge is another matter, however. There isn’t much left, but what there is might be eaten by me in my weakness. I am not sure if resolutions can be started once the food that tastes so good, but is so bad for us, is eaten, but I believe it will go that way in this house, for 2015. The exercise is good for me. I enjoy it, I feel better when I am finished, and that good feeling lasts the whole day. All of that is true. However, for the past couple of months I have not been consistent enough to have that be true. Weather permitting, schedule permitting, I intend to be more consistent in taking the cardio class at Total Fitness. Life can get so busy for me, with demands on all sides, and yet, I am retired and should be able to juggle things to get to my classes. Plus, on the days I don’t get there, I need to start working out again at home. It is a matter of habit. Habits are difficult to break, but once I get out of one, it is just as difficult to start up again. The best part of new beginnings is to remember to let the past stay in the past, to put resentments aside, as they hurt us more than the one whom we resent. So, for 2015, I will make a new resolution: I resolve to love much, forgive often, and to find thankfulness in all situations and joy in every day.
