WRBA selling tickets for ‘ice condo’

The Wolf River Builders Association (WRBA) is giving away an “ice condo.” The organization is selling raffle tickets for the enhanced ice shanty. The winning ticket will be pulled Jan. 31 at Sunset Bar and Grill in Shawano. The ice condo will be available for public viewing during the American Legion fishing derby Jan. 17 at the Sunset Bar and Grill and on Jan. 31. It also can be seen other times at the Cecil Bait Shop, where tickets also are available. Raffle tickets are $5 each or three for $10. They will be available until the drawing. The condo is being built by Shawano Community High School students under the supervision of technology education teacher Greg Brown. It will include marine-finish storage benches, finished interiors, trimmed-out windows, interior and exterior paint, and a metal roof. The condo will include a fish cleaning table, compliments of Stone Creations and Crossroads Custom Cabinetry, as well as a custom rod holder. “This is truly built by the kids, for the kids,” said Mary Huntington, of Crossroads Custom Cabinetry. “The students learn hands-on construction skills, and in return, the funds generated go back to students who are pursuing careers in the building industry.” All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the WRBA scholarship fund. Graduating seniors who attend a high school within WRBA’s territory and plan to pursue a career in the building industry may apply. The student may attend a four-year college or a technical school in the fall following graduation in 2015. For more information on the scholarship fundraiser, call the WRBA office at 715-853-2310.
