Esther A. Deering, 83, of Shawano passed away on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2015, in Shawano.
Esther was born on April 2, 1931, the daughter of Emil and Sophia (Gulzynski) Passon, of rural Pulaski. Esther married Walter Deering at BVM Catholic Church in Pulaski. He preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 2011.
Esther was a hair dresser most of her adult life. She owned four beauty salons under the names of D’s House of Beauty or Esther’s House of Beauty, in Pulaski, Gillett, Oconto Falls and Bonduel. Esther was also an instructor in the Wisconsin School of Cosmetology in Green Bay and a part-owner in the Belle Plaine Cheese Factory, Shawano County, with her husband, Wally. After retirement, she lived on the Red River in rural Shawano. Esther loved her flower gardens. She had over 176 hosta, plus other flower gardens. She walked each day for two to three miles with her dog, Sadie, a chocolate Lab. She also had two calico cats, Chucky and Queen Bee.
Esther traveled to Europe many times and China, Mexico, Puerto Rico and many other islands and the USA. Esther, being from a small country girl, knew the meaning of hard work. She loved to travel, but she never forgot where she came from and returned to her roots in Pulaski from time to time.
Esther is survived by multiple nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Elaine Arneson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Sophia Passon; her husband, Walter Deering; a brother, Edward Passon; a sister, Mary Ann Passon Sweeney; brothers-in-law, Hugo, Reinhold, Harry and Arthur Deering; sisters-in-law, Emma Lockstein and Sophie Horsens.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil with the Rev. Dave Barrett officiating. Family and friends may call on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held in the spring at ABVM Cemetery in Pulaski.
