Sandra M. “Sandy” Ponfil, 75, of Neopit, passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2015.
Sandy was born in Keshena on Oct. 5, 1939, to the late Robert D. and Mary (Neconish) Soman. After attending Antigo High School, Sandra moved to Chicago, where she lived until returning to the Menominee area. She was a generous, kind-hearted, fun-loving person with a great sense of humor. She was a great cook and enjoyed playing Bingo and slots as well as spending time with her family and friends.
Sandra is survived by her son, Jaime “Duke” Pocan; several grandchildren; a sister, Loretta McPherson; a special sister, Romaine Delabrue; three nieces, Denise (Kerry) Madosh, Darlene (Jim) Welk and Aletha McPherson; one nephew, Dana Grignon Jr.; and two special great-nephews, Peanut and Stormy.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Curtis Tourtillott; her second husband, Rodger Ponfil Sr.; special friend, Edward “Budzie” Starr; her parents; two sisters, Marilyn J. Grignon and another sister, Marilyn, in infancy; and two brothers, Duane “Sonny” Soman and Bob Allen in infancy.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, 2015, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Neopit with the Rev. David McElroy, O.Praem, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Neopit Community Center, beginning at 3 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, until the time of the funeral on Wednesday.
