AMVETS Post 10 of Shawano is giving away 120 tickets to the Box in the Wood Theatre Guild’s opening night performance of “M*A*S*H” to local veterans.
The guild is presenting “M*A*S*H” at the Mielke Arts Center on April 23, 24, 25 and 26, as well as April 30, May 1, 2 and 3.
AMVETS Post 10 of Shawano has purchased 150 tickets to opening night and will provide a color guard for that performance. Of the tickets, 120 will be given out free to veterans, with a maximum of two per veteran.
Veterans can pick up the tickets after April 8 at Qualheim’s True Value, Generations on Main Street in Shawano and at the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce office on South Main Street. They are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
People getting the tickets are asked to use them or give them to another veteran. Tickets can be picked up after April 8.
The role of Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals was popularized by the 1970 movie and then television series, “M*A*S*H,” which were based on a book by Richard Hooker. The medical facilities were located near the front lines to provide triaging and first-line treatment of the wounded.
Most of the characters you remember from the TV show will be portrayed by local talent in the guild’s presentation. Col. Blake, Hawkeye, Father O’Malley, Radar, “Hot Lips” and others will be there.
AMVETS is open to all veterans or active duty personnel who have served in the Armed Forces, in the National Guard or Reserves and have been separated under condition other than dishonorable. There are no other requirements.
