The Bonduel High School softball team needed to endure just one inning of runs by Crandon on its way to a 16-4 win in Wednesday’s WIAA Division 3 regional at Shawano.
Lexi Reinke and Jen Dowden scored four runs each for the Bears, who scored in each of their four at-bats.
Cameri Gehm allowed only two hits and no walks to earn the win.
Bonduel opened with a three-run first inning to take a 3-0 lead. Reinke and Dowden had one-out hits and Kaylee Rynish drew a walk before consecutive hits by Taylor Weier, Dea Zernicke and Brittany Wudtke.
Crandon had its one productive at-bat in the second, scoring four runs. A walk and four hits led to a temporary 4-3 Crandon advantage before the Bears took the lead for good.
Althea Berry, Kailee Pedersen, Reinke and Dowden each scored a second-inning run for Bonduel, which regained the lead at 7-4.
While Gehm held Crandon scoreless for the remainder of the game, the Bears kept adding runs as they approached the 10-run threshold. They scored five runs in the third inning, boosting their lead to 12-4 heading into the fourth. Berry, Pedersen, Reinke, Dowden and Rynish scored runs in the third for Bonduel.
The Bears started at the top of the lineup for their fourth-inning at-bat, and four consecutive batters crossed the plate. Reinke, Dowden, Rynish and Weier each scored a run to give Bonduel a 16-4 win. Crandon was unable to score and extend the game, which ended before the Bears’ fifth-inning at bat.
Gehn finished with two strikeouts in the win.
Erin Homerton took the loss, allowing 18 hits and striking out none.
Reinke and Dowden finished with four hits each. Rynish had three hits and scored three runs for Bonduel, which advanced to face Menominee Indian on the road Thursday.
