Gordon H. Flaig, 90, Green Bay, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015. He was born on April 5, 1925, in Green Bay to Edward and Elizabeth (Kleman) Flaig.
Gordon served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps with the U.S. 8th Army during World War II. He completed 30 missions in B-17 bombers over Germany before his 19th birthday.
On March 4, 1946, Gordon married Bette J. Baldwin in Shawano. She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 1994. He began his career as a truck driver in the 1940s. Gordon drove for A&P Stores and later for Super Valu, retiring in 1990. He was a longtime member of St. Patrick Parish and was a past member of the American Legion. Gordon had a love of the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and traveling the back roads of Wisconsin. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his “one liners” and his big blue eyes.
Gordon is survived by four children: Diane Flaig, De Pere, David Flaig and Debra LeGros, both of Green Bay, and Dean Flaig and his fiancée, Jamie Templin, Menasha; five grandchildren, Julie, Christine, Gretchen, Derek and Colleen; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandsons; three siblings and their spouses, Marcella Cheyka, Roger (Donna) Flaig, Evelyn (Frank) Ferguson; two sisters-in-law, Pilar Flaig and Ruth Flaig; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bette Jane; his parents; a granddaughter, Shari LeGros; three brothers, Jim, Howard and Alvin Flaig; sister-in-law, Deloris Flaig; and brother-in-law, Frank Cheyka.
Friends may call at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, June 10. Visitation will continue at the funeral home from 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 11. The funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Everts officiating. Entombment will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park Mausoleum.
