A Bear Creek teen was arrested early Saturday after an alleged drunken driving chase in Clintonville that also resulted in six hit-and-run violations.
According to the Clintonville Police Department, Officer Matthew Wright located and attempted to stop a suspected hit-and-run vehicle at about 3:10 a.m. after being notified of a stop sign being struck at East Madison and Maize streets.
The operator of the 1998 GMC pickup truck was driving recklessly with no rear tire on one side of the vehicle, according to police.
After a brief pursuit, the suspect crashed his vehicle into some shrubbery on Flora Way and fled on foot.
Wright pursued the driver on foot and took him into custody after a brief scuffle. Wright received minor injuries during the incident but was able to continue his duties, the police department said.
A 19-year-old male from rural Bear Creek was charged with operating while intoxicated, operating with a prohibited alcohol content, reckless endangerment, operating left of the center line, failure to stop at a stop sign, failure to maintain vehicle control, underage drinking, display of power and resisting an officer.
He also received six citations for property damage hit-and-run after further investigation revealed that the suspect intentionally struck additional street signs in the city, according to the police department.
The incident was still under investigation and further charges may be forthcoming.
