Marshall E. Jahnke, 93, Krakow, died suddenly Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013, at home of natural causes. He was born Oct. 15, 1919, to the late William and Louise (Grady) Jahnke. Marshall was raised on the family farm and graduated from Oconto Falls High School.
On June 21, 1947, he married Arnita Schroeder, and together they owned and operated a family farm in the town of Chase for many years. Marshall also worked for the Morgan Co-op Dairy, where he did the payroll and also drove a milk truck. He served on the board of directors for the Oconto Electric Co-op for many years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Morgan all of his life.
Survivors are his three children, Nyla Naniot, James (Penny) Jahnke, Carolyn (Mark) Van Donsel; eight grandchildren, Michael, David and Daniel Naniot, Luke (Lacy) Van Donsel, Rachel (Steven) Kars, the Rev. Sherry (the Rev. Grant) Van Lishout, Jonna (Scott) Buse, Kate (Brandon) Shelman; 10 great-grandchildren, Samantha and Spencer Van Donsel, Holden, Miles and Marshall Buse, Abigail and Kinzie Kars, Lily Van Lishout, Danielle Naniot, Kaiya Shelman; one sister, Mona Landers; one sister-in-law, Dolores Schroeder; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arnita, on March 6, 2010; one son-in-law, Richard Naniot; an infant granddaughter, Marie Van Donsel; one sister, Anita Larsen; one sister-in-law, Helen Marcheske; four brothers-in-law, Carl Marcheske, Alvin Schroeder, William Landers and Harris Larsen; and an infant nephew, Dale Marcheske.
Dad will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, kindness, generosity and being a man of his word. He was well-liked by all and adored by his family and had clever nicknames for everyone. Marshall was a great dancer and loved to travel and try new things, including riding his motorcycle and sailing. Dad enjoyed cutting everyone’s lawn—which affectionately earned him the name “lawn fairy” from his grandchildren, as well as always fixing things for a friend in need and fixing things at his church. He was deeply devoted to his family and to his many wonderful friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in the town of Morgan, 3374 County Road C, Oconto Falls, until the time of service. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the church with the Rev. Paul Heykes officiating. Burial will follow in the town of Morgan Cemetery.
